Two to three years college level courses/Associateâs Degree/Diploma in Respiratory Care. New Mexico Respiratory Care Practitioner License, Registered Respiratory Therapist credential from the NBRC, ACLS and/or PALS , BLS required. Six months to one year critical care experience required. RRTâs working in Diagnostics must complete the Certified Pulmonary Function Technician credential from the NBRC within one year of hire. RRTâs working in NIC/PIC must complete the Neonatal Pediatric Specialist credential with one year of hire RRTâs working in Polysomnography must complete the RPSGT or RRT-SDS credential within 2 years of hire.
Primary Job Functions
- All Pulmonary Tech III responsibilities.
- Assists physicians with Fiber optic Bronchoscopy under departmental policy including monitoring and assessment of the level of consciousness, cardiovascular and pulmonary systems; as well as delivery of IV conscious sedation agents to include drugs in the classifications of opiods, benzodiazepines and sedative hypnotics and their reversal agents
- Maintains and monitors chest tubes.
- Initiates CVICU ventilator protocols; implements and coordinates ventilator management of post-operative patients in CVICU.
- Performs advanced airway care to include tracheotomy changes, extubation and intubation.
- Operates and monitors high frequency ventilators.
- NICU Therapist IVs will also perform: Surfactant delivery, intubation and attend high risk deliveries. NRP certification required.
- Diagnostic Therapist IVs are required to perform PFT testing, Bronchoscopies and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. CPFT certification required.
- PICU Therapist IVs require PALS certification.
- Optional procedures: air transport team, Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy, intubation, and Back-up charge therapist.
- Initiates and monitors Nitric Oxide delivery.
- Performs other functions as required.
