Perform a variety of pharmacy technician duties to include filling routine prescription orders, prepackaging pharmaceuticals and other related duties. Ensure adherence to Hospitals! and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Essential and other responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following :
PRESCRIPTIONS - Enter and fill prescriptions from bulk unit dose stock; fill bottles, capsules and other package forms with measured amounts of medication according to prescription and under the supervision of a pharmacist

PRESCRIPTIONS - Type prescription information to include identification and medication usage; assemble labels, containers and medication for pharmacist approval

PRESCRIPTIONS - Weigh, measure and mix ingredients; compound and prepare medication, emulsions, suspensions, liquids, powders and ointments by using graduates, balance, mortar, pestle and funnels

RECORDS - Maintain logs to include narcotic inventory and other controlled substance r! ecords; maintain records on prescriptions dispensed

O! THER DUTIES - May be required to assist other department areas and personnel as needed

OUTPATIENT ASSIGNED AREA

CASHIER - Perform basic cashiering duties; collect money for prescription and related purchases; close and balance register

INPATIENT ASSIGNED AREA

SOLUTIONS - Mix additives for IV and irrigation solutions for pharmacist inspection

SUPPLY - Restock medication supply and crash carts for nursing units and clinics

CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES - Count, package and deliver controlled substances under the supervision of a pharmacist; maintain narcotic inventory; order narcotics under the supervision of the charge pharmacist

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent

EXPERIENCE:
1/2 year (6 months) related experience

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Certified Pharmacy Technician in State of New Mexico

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Bilingual English/Spanish

Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo

WORKING CONDITIONS

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Significant hazard exposure: Constant risk exposure to unusual elements, i.e., toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials requiring extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occ! asionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
