Position Summary:
The Department of Pediatric Division of Hematology/Oncology is seeking one full-time Nurse Manager in the pediatric oncology and hematology patient population. The Pediatric Hematology/Oncology division is the only pediatric oncology program for the state of New Mexico. We are looking for candidates who have an interest in pediatric oncology and are willing to participate in a team-oriented, group practice that serves a culturally diverse population. The Division is affiliated with the NCI-designated UNM Cancer Center, is an NCI MB-CCOP, and is an active participant in the Children's Oncology Group. We see 80-90 new oncology patients annually, the majority of whom are enrolled on cli! nical trials. The Nurse Manager would be responsible for the s! upervision of other nursing personnel, including training, enforcement of internal procedures and control and problem resolution; evaluating performance and functioning as a liaison between the nursing and physician team. The candidate will also be responsible for planning, directing and implementing nursing care for oncology patients, both inpatient and outpatient. The Nurse Manager will be involved in preparation for clinic visits, including reviewing scan reports, research requirements, discharges, labs and chemotherapy orders. Communicating with other departments, home health agencies, and other physicians regarding patient care, and helping to educate patients and families on our treatment approaches. The Nurse Manager will also become a COG member (Children's Oncology Group) and become very familiar with oncology standard of care and protocol requirements. In this capacity, the provider will review patient charts to confirm adherence to these requirements. The Nurse M! anager will be a staff member of the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology division within the School of Medicine at UNM, and will work under the supervision of the division faculty. With on-the-job training and additional experience, the candidate will develop a large degree of independence in managing the clinical care of non-emergency pediatric oncology patients. Certification must be obtained from the UNM HRRC for participation of research involving human subjects. This is a benefits eligible position. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing or directly related field/discipline; at least 6 years of directly related experience. OR ! Master's degree in Nursing or directly related field/discipline; at lea! st 4 years of directly related experience. State of New Mexico Licensed Registered Nurse or licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the "multistate privilege to practice" compact with New Mexico.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual Skills in English/Spanish Clinical experience with pediatric patients Experience with IV infusions and blood draws Experience with clinical research and teaching Proficiency with or willing to learn to do lumbar punctures, bone marrow aspirations and biopsies in children
