This position is located in Gallup Service Unit, Division of Clinical Services, Gallup, New Mexico. The Division of Clinical Service has several branches that include inpatient, outpatient and ancillary services that are services that are comprised of emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, gener! al surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, radiology,! psychiatry, dentistry, optometry, rehabilitative services and anesthesiology.

Coordinate medical staff administrative functions related to credentials and privileges, medical staff meetings, the medical school and resident program, locum tenen providers.
Ensures a reliable and organized credential process is maintained for the medical staff including, physicians, physician assistants, dentist, physical therapist, nurse anesthetics, midwives, nurse practitioners, physical therapist, speech language pathologist, resident, locum tenens, consultants, volunteers and medical students.
Maintains a thorough knowledge ! and understanding of the medical staff organization and organizational documents such as the Gallup Service Unit bylaws, NAIHS bylaws, rules and regulations, JCAHO standards, legal standards, state and federal regulations in order to coordinate the process.
Verifies all incoming verification of hospital affiliation and clinical privileges from other health care facilities state licensing agencies.
Coordinates overall program/process of all visiting medical students, volunteers and residents rotations in collaboration with the medical staff student/resident coordinator in accordance to the Gallup Service Unit policies.
Receives, maintains and controls all incoming/outgoing correspondence, reports, and instructions, etc. to insure timely reply or action.

COMPETITIVE SERVICE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
GS-9: Candidates for the GS-9 must have had 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level OR masterÂ's or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related.
Specialized Experience: Progressively responsible analytical or administrative, or clinical management or supervisory experience in the health care field. This work may have been performed in an operating health care facility or a higher organizational echelon with advisory or directional authority over such facilities. Work must have involved a close working relationship with facility managers and analysis and/or coordination of administrative, clinical, or other service activities, and provided ! knowledge of the following:

Missions, organizations, programs, and requirements of health care delivery systems;
Regulations and standards of various regulatory and credentialing groups; and
Government-wide, agency, and facility systems and requirements in various administrative areas such as budget, personnel, and procurement.

Special Provision for Inservice Placement: Successful completion of an agency-sponsored on-the-job training program may be substituted for qualifying experience, provided it included a formal individualized training plan. Such a training program must have been conducted in an operating health care system and included:

Assignments providing a knowledge of basic health system administration philosophies, practices, and procedures, and basic government administrative policies and requirements;
Practical assignments providing an opportunity to apply health system administration skills and principles (as the i! ndividual progresses, work assignments must be characteristic of the gr! ade level to which he or she is assigned); and
Oversight by an experienced health system administrator with periodic evaluation of the individual's progress and appropriate adjustment of the training program.

Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
