Respiratory Therapist

Location: Shiprock, New Mexico

Required Qualifications:
Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a government securit! y clearance
Respiratory Therapists must be Board Certified or Registered through the National Board of Respiratory Care.
Respiratory Therapists must maintain a state license
Previous work experience within Indian Health Service or Veterans Administration preferred.
Respiratory Therapist must possess at least two (2) years of recent acute care experience.
BLS certification required.
Preferably ACLS certification but not required.
Preferably NALS and/or PALS but not required.
Have over a year and half (1.5) of experience in the following areas:
1. Pediatrics
2. Neonatal ICU Management of Ventilators at a Level II
3. Adult ICU Ventilator Management - Level II
4. Level II Emergency/Trauma
5. Arterial blood gas punctures, analyzing and interpretation
6. Medical/Surgical care of young adults, adults and geriatric patients
7. General floor care.
8. Floor to floor and ground transports.
9. Electrocardiograms
10! . Competence in respiratory medications.

Schedulin! g Details:
Work hours are in the following categories: 8, 10 and/or 12 hours shifts to provide 24 hour coverage: 0800-1630, 1900-0330, 0700-1730, 0700-1930, 1900-0730, or 1900-0530

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
The Respiratory Therapist shall be responsible for monitoring all respiratory modalities of therapy.
Must communicate patient assessments, treatments, laboratory results and any problems directly related to the patient(s) with the attending physician and/or nursing staff. This communication will be done verbally and/or through clear, sound, readable documentation.
The RT shall provide care with competent knowledge in the field of Respiratory Therapy. The services are listed below but their services are not limited to this list. These services will be applied to patients of all age groups, from neonate to geriatric patients.
Oxygen administration using all the devices available, such as nasal cannu! la, simple masks, ventri-masks, partial rebreather, aerosol mask, oxyhoods, infant incubators etc.
Basic life support of all age specific patients.
Initial set-up of ventilators. Ventilator management of adult, pediatric, neonatal and geriatric patients. Ventilation of patients with known diseases such as COPD, asthma, pneumonia, Adult respiratory distress syndrome etc. Thorough documentation on the ventilator supported patients will be completed every 2 hours including the completion of the ventilator flow sheet.
Documentation of patient care will be done every time there is contact with the patient.
Assisting with intubation of patients of all ages.
Proper care of endotracheal tubes and trach tubes. Including the use of a cuff Monitor, NOT MLT.
Weaning patients from ventilators and recording such measurements.
Extubation of patients of all age groups.
Competent knowledge of Respiratory pharmacology is a requirement.
Nebulized treatments! via small volume and large volume units. Having competent knowledge of! all Respiratory medications, their positive effects, adverse affects and proper doses and mixing are a must.
Metered dose inhaler/spacer administration the effects of metered dosed medications,frequencies of administration and duration of medications effects.
IPPB treatments using medication with proper education to patients to eliminate fear.
BiPAP/CPAP administration and proper fit of nasal masks and full facemasks.
Proper suctioning technique of patients on ventilators and those patients who are not on ventilators who need nasopharnegeal/oral suctioning.
Comfort care provided with respect to patients who are nearing their time of death.
Obtain sputum samples either naturally, by induction, or suction.
Performs arterial punctures using proper technique and correct transporting blood products.
Analyzing arterial blood gases and interpretation.
Obtaining venous blood gases from Swan-Gang and capillary samples from neonate and Pediatric p! atients.
Complete understanding, knowledge and application of chest physiotherapy
Peak flow monitoring of patients.
Proper use of oximeter and capnograph on all age groups.
Performs electrocardiograms on all age groups.
Capable of setting-up cardio stress test patients.
Prepares patients for echocardiogram.
Maintains all respiratory equipment for future use by testing, cleaning and calibrating.
Adheres to JCAHO and CLIA standards in care of patients, equipment and blood gas laboratory.
Clearly educates and instructs patients/family followed by documentation of contact.
The Respiratory Therapist must be knowledgeable and capable of performing in trauma situations, life and death situations, critically ill, high risk patients and disasters.
NNMC utilizes handwritten charting for documentation. The RT must abide to all JCAHO standards and the policy and procedure for full assessments. Monitoring affects of a patients response to care! given, all pertinent information pertaining to the care of the patient! and any contact will be documented.
Therapist is required to fulfill all physicians documented orders for patients who fall under the care of Respiratory Therapy, unless, the order could cause harm to the patient. Failure to do so will result in a written complaint to the contracting company and the acquisition office of NNMC.
The Respiratory Therapist must be capable of performing Respiratory duties in an in-patient and out-patient setting.
