The chapter “Instrumental Analytics” is part of the Chapter Area Reagent Research & Design within Roche Diagnostics. Technology focus is on liquid chromatographic (HPLC) separation and mass spectrometry (MS) including sample preparation for quantitative analytics of diagnostic targets.

The goal of the proposed position is to develop, realize and test innovative solutions for diagnostic system concepts based on HPLC-MS/MS for the identification of oligonucleotides. Your work will focus on the following aspects:

  • Identification of suitable enzymes for sequence specific hydrolysis of engineered ribonucleic and desoxyribonucleic acids yielding oligonucleotides of shorter length

  • Supporting the development and optimization of an LC-MS/MS based oligonucleotide sequencing method

  • Application of developed methods to assess quality of engineered oligonucleotides

  • Examination of oligonucleotide related products and the characterization of their impurities

  • Review and evaluate scientific literature and to present your results

  • Working in close cooperation within a team of scientists

To be successful in this role, you will be or you will have:

  • You are enrolled in a Masters’s program in biology, chemistry biochemistry or a comparable program for the whole period of internship

  • You have a fundamental understanding of organic chemistry and analytical methods (liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry) and characteristics of nucleic acids (physico-chemical attributes)

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills are your strengths

  • You enjoy working in a team

  • Highly advanced planning and organization skills complete your profile

  • You possess good spoken and written English skills; German language skills are not required

As an Intern within R&D Early Development & Reagent Design you could be expected to support both project and functional teams depending on the needs of the department.
