The best women’s hospital in Los Angeles is looking for current RN candidates to staff Operating Room, Emergency Department, Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby care units to be housed in our expanding new patient tower facility scheduled to open next year. Position Summary:

Reports to the Director, this position is responsible for providing clerical support and services to meet the specific needs of the assigned unit, providing high quality service to patients and staff.

    • Performs clerical duties required to maintain accurate, up-to-date medical record information.
    • Transcribes physician orders, maintains charts in neat chronological order, ensures that information is current, correct, and legible, notifies team members of STAT orders, places identifying patient information in appropriate location.
    • Performs clerical duties related to admissions, transfers, discharges and deaths.
    • Receives/transfs phone calls within the department; takes accurate messages.
    • Schedules tests and procedures with other departments, documents appropriately and notifies nurse of schedule changes.
  • Ensures adequate and accurate inventory of stock supplies and processes requisitions for supplies and equipment.
    • Responds promptly to patient call lights, referring patient needs to appropriate staff personnel.
    • Demonstrates the ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations and follows established emergency procedures and practices.
    • Communicates and following the organizational chain of command for notification of patient care/service issues, when appropriate.
    • Assures that the rights of all patients are respected and maintained by allowing for privacy and dignity in the provision of service.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of age specific care, including but not limited to, identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings; and assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills and/or activities that place patients at risk as well as communicates effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner.     • Practices Universal Precautions.
    • Accurately adheres to department and union guidelines on floating, call off and other scheduling practices.
  • Attends and successfully completes general and departmental orientation, attends in-service programs and completes the annual mandatory update requirements.

  • Minimum one year recent Unit Secretary experience in an acute care setting preferred.


Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation

  • Current Los Angeles County Fire Card required (within 30 days of employment).
  • BLS card.
