Job Description:

Reporting into the Chief Actuary, the Director of Capital Management will lead solvency reporting for Bermuda Branch within Sun Life International (SLI). In addition the Director will lead affiliate reinsurance program for SL Bermuda. The director will own the LICAT and Capital Risk Management Operating Guidelines and support the Reinsurance Operating Guideline.

What will you do?

Capital Management:

  • Production of SLI’s LICAT.
  • Build automated, controlled production processes.
  • Conduct quarterly reporting and analysis of the Bermuda Branch’s regulatory capital position.
  • Manage engagement with consultants to conduct periodic assessment on a BSCR (Bermuda Solvency) basis.
  • Enhance capital forecast for SLI and Bermuda Branch and avoid surprises at quarter close.
  • Recommend capital injections/repatriations as appropriate.

Affiliate Reinsurance

  • Structure and execute affiliate reinsurance transactions that support the Company’s financial performance objectives.
  • Monitor and evaluate performance of existing treaties.
  • Ensure governance and compliance of affiliated reinsurance business.
  • Serve as liaison to the reinsurance administration teams, in support of new treaties and amendments.
  • Support preparation of board materials for the Company’s Bermuda-based Reinsurance entities.

What do you need to succeed?

  • FSA or equivalent designation.
  • Minimum of 8+ years’ experience in the life insurance/reinsurance industry.
  • 3+ years of experience managing and mentoring actuarial staff.
  • Exposure to pricing/valuation, financial reporting, enterprise risk management, including affiliated and third-party structured reinsurance.
  • Strong individual life insurance pricing and product knowledge, including traditional risk transfer reinsurance.
  • Experience with the Canadian life insurance regulatory capital framework (LICAT), EIOPA Solvency II, Singapore RBC2, Hong Kong RBC, US RBC.
  • Self motivated and able to determine what needs to be done, generates innovative solutions and makes decisions.
  • Manages complexity and shifting priorities in a fast paced environment.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience using Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated technical, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate well with all stakeholders whilst building credibility and trust.
  • Strong organizational skills with a commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Willingness to work unusual hours from time to time, due to Sun Life offices within other time zones.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
