KEY REQUIREMENTS

Position subject to background investigation.

Please ensure you answer all questions and follow all instructions carefully. Errors or omissions may impact your rating or result in you losing consideration for the job.

Provides care to patients with a variety of conditions, illnesses and/or injuries.
Provides screening/triage by obtaining and recording patient medical information, screening TPR, B/P, oximetry, height, weight, etc.
Reviews medical records and screens chart for possible implementation of other necessary forms that maybe required with the patient's visit.
Collects and utilizes proper care of specimens, instructs of proper collection of urine samples. Prepares samples for analysis e.! g., labels specimen tubes.
Places patients in exam rooms, explainin! g procedures, positioning, draping and assembling instrument, supplies and sterilizing instruments.
Cleans used instruments and reports defective equipment and materials.
Performs advanced duties; performs venipunctures to obtain blood specimens for laboratory testing, performs blood glucose testing, and obtains bacteriologic specimens such as sputum and clean-catch urine specimens. Assist the Physician with sterile procedures such as suturing, throat cultures, and setting up specialized trays, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Basic Qualifications:
GS-05: Candidates must have had 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level to qualify for the GS-05 grade level, OR successful completion of full 4 year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.

Specialized Experience: Positions in this s! eries range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologist, speech pathologists, medical officers and optometrist. Therefore, a technician experience is experience that required applications of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. To be credible, specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower grade level. Examples of the type of specialized experience are: provides care to neonate, pediatrics and adolescent patients in a Pediatric setting; recording patient information, obtains and labels specimens, and assist with patient examinations.

Time in Grade Requirement: Federal status applicants must have completed at least 52 weeks of service in a position no more than one grade lower than the position to be filled. If selected under the Excepted Service Examining Plan, individuals may be appointed without regard to time-in-grade requirements.
