Job Summary
Function in a specialized area of advance practice in the role of practitioner, mentor, consultant, ! educator, researcher and manager. Establish goals and priorities in accordance with patient and staff needs and organizational objectives. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs
- PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops.
- Assess, diagnose and develop treatment plans; implement treatment, follow-up and evaluate patient within the scope of practice protocols as outlined by state statute
- Perform patient history and physical exams as needed for procedures or admissions; document findings noti! ng pertinent normal and abnormal findings
- Perform inv! asive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
- Evaluate and revise intervention care/treatment plan with patient and family as necessary to achieve improved health
- Provide education for patients and/or families about preventative care, medical issues and use of the prescribed medical treatment
- Work as a team member with medical/nursing staff to provide comprehensive care and promote continuity of care
- Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
- Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
- Provide accurate documentation of patient care, document orders, directives, procedures and patient responses in the medical record and communicate them to other members of the health care team; maintain accurate, legible and confidential records
- Maintain professional knowledge, skills and re! fine expertise by attending continuing education programs; maintain certification in compliance with current state law; participate in professional affiliations
- Enhance the body of knowledge in area of specialization through professional organizations, presentations, posters, research activities and written publication
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's Degree from a Physician Assistant accredited program
Licenses/Certifications : NCCPA - Certified by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants Licensed New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners Physician Assistant
Prescriptive Authority from the State of New Mexico; ACLS Certification required
Work Experience: One (1) year work experience in Orthopedics
