Data Analysts ensure that data analysis used to inform IDEA Public Schools decision-makers is rigorous, timely, clear, and reproducible. Data Analysts work cross-functionally on both the Research and Analytics (R&A) team and the Human Assets Team supporting both recurring and ad-hoc analyses, and longer research projects. The ultimate goal for the Data Analyst role is to support the organization in achieving its mission and goals.

This is a full-time, remote role based in Texas with preference given to candidates who live in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin, Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, Tarrant County (Fort Worth), or who are willing to relocate.

What You’ll Do – Accountabilities:

  • Create clear analysis (e.g., descriptive, predictive, and causal) that highlights trends, relationships, and opportunities for improvement throughout the organization.
  • Partner with Information Systems and Software Development to verify that data sources available for analyses and reporting are populated with accurate and timely data.
  • Ensure that repeated analyses and reports (e.g., assessment reports) are designed in a reproducible, replicable manner which reduces subsequent re-analysis burdens.
  • Provide rapid turnaround for ad-hoc data analysis requests from stakeholders.
  • Gather requirements and use cases from key stakeholders for each report/analysis/data request.
  • Utilize project management best practices to set expectations with business partners and deliver against them.
  • Use both data visualization and reporting best practices to share findings with partners and stakeholders.
  • Utilize checkpoints during product and design to solicit adjusting feedback.
  • Ensure that R&A products are easy to find and access.
  • Create reports that provide clear, actionable, and time sensitive recommendations.
  • 100% of data sources used by R&A are documented, including how to access initial data sources, ETL process, and key transformations and metric calculations.
  • 100% of statistical methods used and modeling choices are documented, including why the method was selected.
  • For ongoing products and reports (e.g., assessment summaries), the analysis lifecycle for ETL to final report is documented, in version control, and reproducible.
