Description: UNM Hospitals is currently interviewing TECH OR CERTIFIED right now, this occupation will be dwelled in New Mexico. More details about this occupation opportunity kindly see the descriptions. Assist in the nursing care and preparation of surgical patients. Function as a member of the sterile team in donning gown and gloves, creating and maintaining a sterile field, and issuing instruments to su! rgeons. Act as a preceptor, and provide service coordination. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.
Accountability:
EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES - Work with staff team to gather necessary supplies, equipment and instruments
EQUIPMENT - Set up tables, instruments and supplies required for specific operations
PATIENT CARE - Assist in preparing and draping of patient and operating area; prepare and maintain sterile field for surgical procedures
DATA - Maintain and assist with computerized data and charting, probing, and digital x-rays; maintain dental laboratory slips and check in lab cases
SPECIMENS - Assist in maintenance and care of specimens; prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES - Decontaminate all equipment, instruments, and supplies
PATIENT CARE - A! ssist with table equipment, patient positioning, and applicati! on of plaster casts and dressings
DOCUMENTATION - Document all patient care activities
STOCK - Perform restocking duties as necessary
TRAINING - Act as preceptor for new technicians
SPECIAL PROCEDURES - Function as a service coordinator with RN for special procedure preparations
SPECIAL PROCEDURES - Maintain suture levels and assist in high level surgical procedures including vascular/aneurysm surgical procedures
DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environ! mental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Surgical Tech program graduate with Certification
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
Nationally recognized Surgical Technology Certification
CPR Certification for Healthcare Providers or for Professional Rescuers or must obtain within 30 calendar days of date of position
Experience Requirements - Preferred:
1 and 1/2 year (18 months) directly related experience
Bilingual English/Spanish
Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Ti! wa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo
Physical Demands Requirements:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
Testing Requirements:
Tuberculin Skin Test required annually
