School Psychologist2014-2015 School YearUnlocking Potential is a nonprofit school management organization whose mission isto rapidly transform chronically underperforming district schools into extraordinaryschools that sustain high achievement over time. Our turnaround schools ensurethat students acquire the knowledge, skills, and strength of character necessary tosucceed on the path to college and to achieve their full potential. UnlockingPotential currently operates four schools, UP Academy Charter School of Boston(grades 6-8), UP Acade! my Leonard Middle School (grades 6-8), UP Academy CharterSchoo! l of Dorchester (grades K1-5), and UP Academy Oliver (grade 6). UnlockingPotential serves more than 1500 students in Boston and Lawrence.

UnlockingPotential is working to open a fifth school (UP Academy Holland) in the summer of2014.Role: The School Psychologist at UP Academy will provide consultation,assessment and intervention services related to school psychology.Specific Responsibilities: •Evaluate and screen students to assess cognitive abilities andsocial-emotional and behavioral needs;•Write evaluation reports including all cognitive, social-emotional, andbehavior assessments and goals;•Create a climate conducive to counseling and implements avariety of effective guidance and therapeutic strategies;•Provide consultation to classroom teachers pertaining tostudent progress, behavior management techniques andestablishing individualized behavior management plans;•Meet federal and state mandates as well as local policies in performance ofduties;•Deter! mine and maintain programs based on goals set by IEP;•Determine needs of individual students and provides services one to one or insmall groups as deemed appropriate;•Determine needs of individual students within the classroom setting andprovides services within the classroom as deemed appropriate;•Work in conjunction with the IEP Team to create IEPs for annual reviews andprovides input for students who are involved with the three-yearre-evaluation;•Maintain logs and ongoing assessments to evaluate student progress andcompletes progress reports;•Attend family conferences;•Participate in special education meetings;•Participate in dispute resolution meetings, hearings and mediation settlementmeetings as needed;•Coordinate outreach activities that support our students and familiesincluding pediatricians, outside counseling agencies and agencies such asDCF, DMH, etc.;•Conduct home visits and works with families to help students make positivebehavioral changes;! •Complete Medicaid reimbursement activities; and•Perform other duti! es related to this job description as required by the schoolPrincipals or other immediate supervisor.Qualifications: •Completion of Master’s degree or higher in school psychology approved by theNational Association of School Psychologists (NASP), including an advancedpracticum of 1,200 hours, 600 of which must be in a school setting;•Possession of MA DESE School Psychologist License;•Experience with Special Education processes (IEP meetings, documentation,initial referrals);•A passionate belief in UP Academy’s mission, values, and educational model;•An eagerness to set ambitious, challenging, and tangible goals, and arelentless drive to achieve them;•An ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and acapacity to remain calm and focused when faced with unexpectedchallenges;•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong publicspeaking skills;•A sense of humility in the face of success; and•Current authorization to! work in the United States â€" A candidate must havesuch authorization by his or her first day of employment.Compensation: We offer a competitive compensation package, including, when relevant, a salaryequal to (and in some cases above) the district scale and comprehensive healthbenefits.To Apply: If you are interested in applying for this position, please visithttp://www.unlocking-potential.org/careeropportunities.htmland formally apply for this position through our on-line application system.UP Academy Holland is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminateagainst employees or qualified job applicants on the basis of race, religion, color,sex, age, national origin, disability, veteran status, marital status, sexualorientation, gender identity, genetic information, or any other status or conditionprotected by applicable law.
