Position Summary:Organize and deliver occupational therapy to facilitate rehabilitation of the physically-impaired following disease, injury, or surgical intervention. Direct patient participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce and enhance performance; facilitate learning of skills and functions necessary for adaptation and productivity. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups. Accountability:ASSESSMENT - Evaluate patient to determine treatment goals; outline delivery of therapy according to assessed needsTHERAPY PLAN - Plan therapy program to include sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social activities designed to help patients regain physical functions or to adjust to handicapsCONSULTATION - Consult with members of rehabilitative team in therapy delivery; consult with medical staff on patient careTHERAPY - Select constructive therapy suited to patient needsEDUCATION - Educate patients on skills and techniques required for participation in therapy program; evaluate progress, attitudes and behavior as related to rehabilitative potentialSUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT - Order supplies and equipmentTOOLS AND EQUIPMENT - Clean and repair tools and equipmentTRAINING - Conduct or participate in training medical/nursing/ancillary personnel in occupational therapy techniques and objectivesDEVICES - Design and fit adaptive devices for patient useDOCUMENTATION - Document patient care activities; process patient billingSUPERVISION - Supervise and instruct occupational therapy students and volunteers as delegated; delegate patient treatment responsibilities to ancillary staff as appropriateCUSTOMER/STAFF RELATIONS - Establish and maintain good rapport and effective working relationships with patients, visitors, physicians and Hospitals employeesDEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshopsPATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocolsPATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processesPATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue riskPATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely mannerPATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may 'not seem right'Education Requirements:Bachelor's Degree in related disciplineLicensure/Certification Requirements:CPR Certification for Healthcare Providers or for Professional Rescuers or must obtain within 30 calendar days of date of positionOne of the following:Occupational Therapist New Mexico License with New Mexico Occupational Therapy Practice BoardTemporary Occupational Therapist New Mexico License with New Mexico Occupational Therapy Practice Board; Obtain permanent License within three months of positionExperience Requirements - Preferred:Bilingual English/SpanishBilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo1 year directly related experiencePhysical Demands Requirements:Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.Testing Requirements:Tuberculin Skin Test required annuallyWorking Conditions Requirements:Medium hazard exposure: Involves moderate exposure to physical risks, i.e., extreme exposure to chemicals, dangerous equipment and/or materials requiring basic safety precautions
